Ah, Spring is in the air.
Where I live, it’s mostly concrete and giant buildings, and the “Spring Air” I am smelling is mostly car exhaust and garbage.
But hey! I do what I can!
If I walk a few blocks I am at a park right by the water. I get to see the grass and flowers blooming.
Unfortunately I can’t live at the park because I’ll be considered a “Hobo” or whatever…so I just try to bring Spring to my own apartment.
With that, I figured the old tradition of May Day Posies would be perfect to spread the Spring cheer.
These posies are perfect to place on other peoples’ doorknobs to bring a little Spring to their lives.
So let’s get started.
Pin for later
What you need to make May Day Posies:
- Floral
and greenery
bushes
- 12″ round paper doilies
- Styrofoam balls
- String
- Paper
- Scissors
- Wire cutters
- Markers and pens
- Glue gun
and glue sticks
- Floral picks
if needed
First you will cut thin long strips of paper for the handles of the baskets.
Next, cut tag shapes out the next sheet of paper, and use a hole punch to make a hole for the string.
You can write a greeting such as “Happy May Day!” and decorate the tags.
Now we begin the baskets!
You will take a large 12″ doily and roll it into a cone.
Glue the edge of the doily down and hold it until it dries.
Now drop the styrofoam ball into the cone.
Glue around the ball to make sure it is secure.
Next you will take the paper strip and bend it in half, then glue the inside edges into the basket.
Cut the floral stems down to pick size, and then start arranging!
Glue the stems down if necessary.
Tie the tag onto the basket, and now it’s done!
Now on the first of May, you just sneak around and put them on your neighbors’ doorknobs, bringing a little bit of surprise joy and Spring to them.
Like a flower ninja. 🙂
Have a great May Day y’all!
