I love those kinds of recipes! 🙂
Let’s get to it!
Sourdough Chocolate Snack Cake
- ½ c sourdough starter (unfed or discard)
- 4 eggs
- ¾ c raw chocolate powder
OR cocoa powder
- ½ c sugar
- ½ c butter
- ½ tsp homemade vanilla
- ⅛ tsp sea salt

Preheat your oven to 350°F.

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and the sugar over medium heat. Don’t heat for too long, just enough to barely melt the butter.
melting butter and sugar together
Whisk that together until it’s smooth.
Add the the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture and beat until smooth.
Then add the vanilla and sourdough starter and whisk again until it’s well mixed.

Now it’s time for the eggs. Add them one at a time, beating well after each addition.
adding eggs one at a time
The batter should be thin, not like a regular cake batter.
all mixed up
Pour the batter into your buttered baking dish.
ready for the oven
Pop the cake into a preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until it tests done with a toothpick.
The edges should be pulling away from the sides, but the center will be a little soft.
Don’t over-bake or the cake will be dry!
Put the pan on a wire rack to cool for at least 10 minutes before cutting.
just chillin out
This sourdough chocolate snack cake is awesome warm right out of the oven. I like to put a little smear of butter on the top.
It’s very lightly sweet, so if you want to add some icing it won’t be too sweet. You could just dust it with some powdered sugar, or add a nice buttercream.
